Happy Father's Day! We will be celebrating the life of the beloved Bob Junius Armstrong, a longtime resident of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of Friday, June 16, 2017 at the age of 88. Born Dallas in January 31, 1929, to Thelma and JC Armstrong, grew up in Houston, played in the band and graduated from San Jacinto High School. He attended Rice University at the age of 15 years old and then transferred and graduated from University of Houston with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters. He accepted a position at Dow Chemical where he spent his whole career, even working on several patents. Based out of Freeport, he enjoyed working at one of the largest facilities in the world and his position with Dow took him around the world including Germany, Mexico, Japan, and Canada.
To his grandchildren, he was the most "interesting man the world" who knew everything (without needing to look it up in Google)! He was an avid sailor and outdoorsman full of endless stories of his travels. He thoroughly enjoyed deepwater sailing and fishing in the Gulf and had sailed in the waters all the way from Bridgeport Harbor the Keys, Bahamas, and even South America. At one point, he even owned a shrimp boat named "the Pride of Freeport". In retirement, he enjoyed spending time at Surfside Beach and could almost always be found tinkering with projects and watching the weather. Actually, there's currently an area of disturbed weather around the Yucatan and, as Bob would say, "its time to dawn your foul weather gear."
Bob J. Armstrong was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Elizabeth Reich Armstrong.
He is survived by wife, Judy Armstrong; Daughters Cynthia Ann Armstrong and Pamela Beth Armstrong (Glenn) Bauries; Son Robert Paul (GayLynn Galloway) Armstrong; Grandchildren Brent Bauries, Alexander Hunter Armstrong, Robert Damon Armstrong, Elizabeth Armstrong (Patrick) Boylan and Cousin Diane Williams; and many members of his extended step family.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8pm at the Dignity Funeral Home at Restwood Memorial Park at 1038 W. Plantation Dr. Clute, TX 77531. The service will be Monday, June 19 at 2pm CT at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church at 200 Oyster Creek Dr., Lake Jackson, TX 77566. Reception to follow at the Parish Hall. Interment will be at Restwood Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of Restwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Clute, Texas.
