Ruby L. Karl, of Brazoria, Texas, peacefully passed away to meet our maker, at the age of 83, on October 10, 2016. Ruby was born on January 30, 1933, in Hope, Texas to the late Claude and Thelma Blackstock.

In 1941, she moved to the Brazosport area to Camp Chemical and graduated from Freeport High School in 1951. After moving to Fort Worth, she met and married the love of her life, Roy Karl, on December 24th, 1952. Through 63 years of marriage, they are blessed with four sons, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and appreciated the time she spent with her family and loved ones. She served the Lord by overseeing the library and working with preschool children at her church for many years. She loved making quilts and has made over 50 quilts which will be cherished by family, friends, and as donations for fundraisers. She was an award winning painter, with hundreds of portraits, sceneries, and still life in her portfolio. Many of her pieces were created with her friends at the Brazosport Art League. She offered endless love to anyone that she knew, a courageous giver, never expecting anything in return except to invest in a friendship.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Thelma Blackstock; sister, Claudia May Willeford; brother, Larry Blackstock; and daughter-in-law, Karen Karl.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Karl; sisters, Marie Cook and Barbara Wishert; sons, Ernest Karl (Donice), Gary Karl, Terry Karl (Shari), and Donald Karl (Christel); grandchildren, Ashley Geissler, Katrina Otto, Shana Karl, Kevin Karl, Jessica Schoonmaker, Tyson Karl, Krystle Karl, Charity Karl, and Aaron Karl; and great-grandchildren, Kaedyn Otto, Jacob, Owen, and Ainsley Geissler, Micah and Luke Schoonmaker, and Carrson Ray Karl.

Visitation will be held at Restwood Funeral Home in Lake Jackson on Thursday, October 13th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church of Brazoria, with Brother Greg Smith and Brother Weldon Doherty, on Friday, October 14th, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Restwood cemetery.

If you wish, memorial contributions can be made to two organizations close to Ruby's heart: The Brazosport Art League or First Baptist Church of Brazoria Library
